Commitment Isn't a Contract

Commitment isn't never missing. It's coming back.

You said you'd start Monday. Then Monday got weird, Tuesday was worse, and by Wednesday you'd already decided you blew it. So you quit. Again. And now there's that quiet little voice saying, see, this is why you never stick with anything.

Can I be honest? I don't think most of us avoid commitment because we're lazy. I think somewhere along the way we decided that committing to something means doing it perfectly, every single day, forever. No misses. No off days. No "I just didn't feel like it."

That's not a commitment. That's a contract with a penalty clause. No wonder we avoid signing the damn thing.

Here's what I'm learning: commitment isn't never missing. Commitment is coming back.

It's walking on Thursday even though you skipped Monday through Wednesday. It's opening that project again after two weeks of pretending it doesn't exist. It's picking the thing back up without the big dramatic restart and the brand new plan. Just... picking it back up.

And the smaller you make the commitment, the easier it is to come back to. Five minutes counts. One lap around the block counts. One paragraph counts. Five minutes you actually do beats an hour you keep promising yourself.

Be kind to yourself on the days you don't do it. That kindness is what gets you back tomorrow.

Always, be real.
